We are a group of friends who dream of making our own audio dramas some day, but had no idea how to go about it. They always say, "practice makes perfect," so we rounded up our team and got to work. Our goal is to learn the "how" behind audio drama creation. Run by Gem Aydin and Lyssa Jay, 400 Words A Horror allows us the space to have fun, spook up a little, experience, experiment, and learn the ins and outs of audio drama creation! This is a learning experience for all of us so, any constructive feedback is more than appreciated. Feel free to drop us a message on any of our socials! If you want to stay anonymous, our Tumblr ask box awaits you.

Sooo... why the name "400 Words A Horror"? Well, the idea came to Gem while practicing with the Pratchett method called ‘400 Words A Day.’ The goal is exactly what it sounds like - write one story a day using at least 400 words (ahem... you know, hence the name) to practice and improve on one's writing. As a result, all of our stories vary in length and topic from episode to episode. We always have a loose theme for the week!

How do I get involved? When we need or want to work with new people, we will announce it on our socials. In the meantime, follow us on social media, join our Discord, and hone your skills with us! We think we're pretty cool, so if you wanna see how we're doing and what we're up to, those are the best places to stay up to date. Links are below! If you like what we do, following and sharing the show is one of the best ways you can support us. It's crazy how far word of mouth or a kind review can go. And, of course, supporting us on Patreon or Ko-Fi is also incredibly helpful! ;D

Gem Aydin

Gem Aydın (they/them) is an intersectionality lawyer and a human rights activist. As a big nerd with an academic heart, they love to learn, explore and teach in their own unique way. Ever since they listened to their first audio drama, they knew it was the perfect medium to express themselves. So, they created 400 Words A Horror with friends to learn how to make an audio drama. Not only do they voice Haven, our loveable monstrous narrator, but they also sound design and edit the show. Quick to learn and develop, they started auditioning for other voice acting roles. They became the voice for Evren Gültekin in Dupont Investigations and Helen Kıtırcı in What’s In the Rift. An autistic of all trades, the master of ADHD; Gem keeps on looking ways to learn different things and better what they know so far.

Voice Actor

Leo B. Moss

Leo B. Moss (he/they) is an avid fan of audio dramas, who developed a love for storytelling through reading an excess of fantasy novels as a kid, and then progressing from a TTRPG player to a GM. He's gradually been pulled deeper into the flotsam and jetsam of the audioverse, having progressed from drawing fan art to voice acting, and is already looking into other aspects of podcast creation. When he's away from the computer, he can often be found outdoors hugging chickens or meandering through the woods. You can find them lurking on Bluesky as Leo B. Moss, and posting art on tumblr as DracoLichen. Sometimes he even posts something other than WOE.BEGONE fan art!

Lyssa Jay

Lyssa Jay (she/they) is a self proclaimed mega nerd, which includes the ability to recite the entire Adventure Time timeline from memory and have almost encyclopedic knowledge about the podcasts she loves. As a former theater kid who exclusively hung out with the crew and never got a lead role, they've got a flair for the dramatic and a love for ttrpgs. A long-time fan of audio dramas, she decided she wanted to get more involved in the community and the narrative fiction creation process! A writer, voice actor, artist, and Twitch streamer - she’s never bored and is constantly working on projects. What even is time? They don’t know. She is a creative director for the upcoming podcast [REDACTED] and The Grotto  (in which she voices of Emily). You can also hear her as Charlie in WOE.BEGONE, Sister-to-All in Breathing Spaces, and a variety of other shows!

Fortune Salem

Fortune Salem (He/Him) is a college student working on his degree in creative writing and religion. When he’s not studying or writing spooky stories he enjoys replaying the same five video games on repeat, reading poetry, playing bass in his college jazz band and trying to teach himself to write music. He’s had an interest in audio dramas for many years, both as a listener and an aspiring writer, but 400 Words A Horror is his first role. Excited to jump even deeper into the audio drama creation world, he's begun planning his own audio drama he plans on working on this year!

Just Jenah

Software Engineer by day, writer and voice actor by night, Jenah (they/them) loves stories in all forms but most especially audio dramas. When they are not actively falling in love with nearly every short lived queer tv show they can get their hands on, you can find them geeking out over their favorite podcasts, attempting to increase their deadlifts over 200lbs, flailing their hands at every jump scare as they play survival horror games, tempting friends to play Settlers of Catan, and grilling up pizzas in all weather. One of the best things to ever happen to them was making friends with fellow podcast enthusiasts who shared a desire to break into the audio drama world with 400 Words a Horror. You can also hear them as Anastacia in the upcopming audio drama No Normal Life as Danny in an episode of The Moon Crown. Find them on Bluesky and Twitter as JustJenahHere.

Prax Kilowatt

Praxis Kilowatt (he/they), has been a fan of audio dramas for over a decade, which sparked an interest in voice acting. Currently, 400 Words A Horror is the only podcast he's starred in, but he's looking forward to joining other shows in the future! In their spare time, they enjoy doing nothing useful with their zoology degree (but would love to talk about animals and ecosystems), playing ttRPGs, making art, supporting local music, and communing with the Denver writing scene.
